Profile
A truly unique peer-led, for-purpose organisation that is celebrating Aspergers, celebrating strengths and celebrating 30 years of support. Since 1991 our organisation has been driven by the power of peer support and lived experience, delivering sector leading peer programs and services to empower our neurodiverse Aspergers autistic community.
“AspieLand” is Asperger Victoria’s moderated Minecraft server and has been developed and shaped in consultation with the children, teens and families who access AV groups and programs.
The program gives up to 25 children and teens (aged 12 and above) an opportunity to connect with people who get them, escape the world of COVID-19 for a little while and experience the joy and creativity that gaming can bring. It offers Aspergers children and teens not only time to interact and play with their peers but also a larger community that they belong to. They can practice their social skills with each other – safe in the knowledge that a moderator is there to help support them and remind what sort of behaviour is appropriate and what goes too far. It also gives parents the reassurance that moderators will be on hand to offer guidance to help their child / teen navigate the online social world.
