  1. Hey Team

I would be interested in connecting and finding out more about your services. I am a registered NDIS provider in Perth Western Australia and can see huge potential and the work you are doing.

  2. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when I came upon your website. It’s so great to see Geek Therapy spreading to Australia!
Hopefully, Geek Therapy becomes a recognized therapeutic approach/method.

    • In Australia, “Gaming Therapy” has been explicitly removed from the allowable supports from our disability funding scheme. Fortunately, this only means where it is directly billed as a therapy from a psychotherapist, and there are other line items and funding categories allied health professionals can use to support clients while utilising games.

But alas, it will be a long time for Geek Therapy to become recognised here. (And we were almost there!)

  3. Hello GTN

I am a GM/DM and have been for 40 years (Also Neurodivergent – ADHD) and wondering what qualifications are needed to be a Games Master for your network?

    • To be able to work in the space the 3 most important things you will need are 1. NDIS Worker Screening Check ($140 per 5 years approx) 2. Working With Children Check ($160 per 5 years approx) 3. Insurance ($200 per year approx). If you are with a Job Provider yourself they will reimburse you for these costs.

In terms of actual qualifications I recommend a Cert 3 in Individual Support and then a Cert 4 in Leisure & Health. You can then go further to get either a Diploma in Community Services or a Diploma in Counselling. The next step after that would be an Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management.

For university level qualifications I always recommend a social work degree. A social work degree gives you the broadest employment opportunities and can put you in a spot where you can utilise games as a tool. You can then specialise with a masters in mental health or similiar.
