I’ll be running Lord of the Rings 5e Dungeons & Dragons games with Affirming Care Services Pty Ltd as part of their Socio-Emotional Language groups.
Players will get to step into the world of Middle Earth: create characters; work together; solve problems; navigate social situations; and make decisions that actually change what happens in the story.
And, of course, there will be plenty of Tolkien.
We might be travelling from the Shire to Bree, exploring Eriador, seeking the safety of Rivendell, encountering Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, or finding ourselves somewhere much less safe with the forces of Sauron looking for us.
D&D is a great way to practise communication, cooperation, perspective-taking, problem-solving and navigating different points of view — without sitting around being explicitly told that that’s what we’re practising.
Instead, you’re just trying to convince the rest of the party that your completely ridiculous plan is actually a good idea.
That’s the fun of RPGs.
The story belongs to the players, and I can’t wait to see what they do with Middle-earth.
While adventure awaits, places in our spring school holiday program are filling up fast!

These games are in person in our clinic in Yarraville, Victoria but we have clients who travel from as far away as Melton and Sydenham to attend our sessions.
Hot tip – Sarah, our clinic owner, also does parent counselling!
